About Pepperfire

The storied legacy of Nashville Hot Chicken isn’t something we take lightly. What humbly began decades ago as a wife’s revenge on a cheating man has grown into a worldwide sensation. Nashville Hot Chicken would not be what it is today without its Founding Feathers just up the road. For years, Hot Chicken was under the radar in Nashville, and although it had its ride-or-die fans, there weren’t write-ups in the New York Times about it or anything.

Enter Isaac Beard: just a Nashville native who was a fan of his city’s signature dish. He loved it so much he thought he’d try making it himself. This was before Nashville was “It City” and way before bachelorettes could get any old chicken tossed in cayenne and call it “Hot Chicken.”

We opened up our little shack―and we mean shack―in East Nashville in 2010 with the idea that we’d honor where Hot Chicken came from while guiding it forward with a respectful and adventurous spirit. Nobody was doing tenders and we were the first to put hot chicken on a bun― the sort of moves that drove the purists crazy. Now, tenders and sandwiches are standards on a lot of menus around town, and we’d like to humbly suggest that those are our contributions to an ever-growing cuisine.

So grab a leg, tender, or whatever you like and enjoy the ride.
